Alycia grew up in New Jersey and has lived in several other states. At Rutgers University (and Rutgers College, at the time) she earned a Bachelor of Art degree in Theatre Arts. Her Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology was earned at Teachers College at Columbia University in New York.

After a career of more than 20 years in Speech-Language Pathology, Alycia suffered a major nervous breakdown with brain damage which prevented her from being able to continue her work in that field. The Disability Services Resource Center in Bay City Michigan gave her an office job for her to reacclimate to working for a couple of days per week.

When Alycia’s husband, Jason Rice, was offered an excellent job in San Antonio, TX they moved, but the job search for Alycia was endless due to her special needs. She had been thinking about writing books for years but she was too afraid of failure to really try. Finally, with nothing but time on her hands, she decided to give it a shot, and it seems to be working out.
